The Royals' performance was highlighted by a spectacular second inning where they amassed six runs off four hits and capitalized on an error by the Pirates. This early surge set the tone for the rest of the game. The team's hitting statistics were notable with a total of eight hits throughout the game and three home runs contributing significantly to their run tally. Salvador Perez led this offensive onslaught with an impressive .667 batting average, securing two hits and one run from just three at-bats.

On the pitching side, Alec Marsh delivered an exceptional start for the Royals. Marsh's pitching line included an earned run average (ERA) of 1.688 over more than five innings pitched, striking out eleven batters which underscored his dominance on the mound and contributed to his winning decision.
