The game, held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, saw both teams put forth a strong effort. The Badgers struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, scoring only 20 points compared to the Dukes' 33. However, they came back stronger after halftime with an improved performance that yielded them 41 points. Despite their efforts and a higher three-point shooting percentage at 38 percent compared to their opponents' 29 percent, it was not enough to secure victory.

The Wisconsin team's statistics reflect areas where they fell short against James Madison University. With a total rebound count of 36 against JMU's 37 and fewer steals at six versus fourteen by JMU, it was clear that turnovers played a significant role; Wisconsin had nineteen turnovers which translated into just ten points off turnovers for them while allowing JMU twenty-seven points from this advantage.

Additionally, free throw accuracy proved crucial as well; while both teams had similar attempts (Wisconsin with twenty-three and JMU thirty), JMU capitalized better by making seventy percent of theirs over Wisconsin's sixty-five percent. In terms of assists-to-turnover ratio, again it was James Madison who fared better with a ratio above one whereas Wisconsin fell below that mark.

Despite these challenges on court for the Badgers including less effective two-point field goal shooting at thirty-seven percent versus forty-six percent by their opponents – there were notable individual performances worth mentioning such as those players contributing eight three-pointers made or those involved in fast break scenarios which resulted in nine fast break points for their side.
