The game began with both teams showing strong defensive skills, leading to a scoreless first two innings. The third inning saw both teams breaking through; however, it was in the seventh inning that the Angels made their decisive move. Scoring three runs off two hits, they capitalized on their opportunities and shifted the momentum of the game in their favor.

Key players for the Angels included Matt Moore who claimed his second win of the season from pitching relief. Moore's performance was pivotal in keeping San Diego's advances at bay during critical moments of the match. Additionally, Luis García and Hunter Strickland contributed significantly by holding off further runs from San Diego, showcasing depth in pitching that proved essential for this victory.

On offense, despite an overall batting average of .200 and managing only five hits throughout nine innings, clutch hitting when it mattered most allowed them to drive home four runs against San Diego's pitchers. The team demonstrated patience at bat as evidenced by drawing six walks and maintaining an on-base percentage of .355.

For San Diego Padres, despite out-hitting Los Angeles with seven hits and scoring once each in both third and eighth innings to keep pressure on their opponents until late into the game could not capitalize enough on these opportunities which ultimately led to their defeat.
