Can the Blue Jays Outshine the Rays at Tropicana Field?

As the Blue Jays prepare to take on the Rays at Tropicana Field, fans are eager to see how their team will perform in this upcoming encounter. The previous season's data provides a glimpse into what we might expect from the Blue Jays as they step onto the field.

The hitting stats from last season show a team with solid power and run production. With 188 home runs and 705 RBIs, they demonstrated their ability to drive in runs when it counts. Their batting average of .256, while not leading the league, was complemented by an on-base percentage (OBP) of 32 percent and an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .746. These figures suggest that while they may not have been the most dominant hitting team, they were certainly capable of getting players on base and bringing them around to score.

One area where there is room for improvement is with runners in scoring position (RISP). Out of 1395 at-bats RISP, they managed 363 hits. This indicates that there could be better clutch performances this season if they want to capitalize fully on scoring opportunities.

On the pitching side, an earned run average (ERA) of just over 3.78 combined with a walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP) rounding up to 1.25 shows that their pitchers were effective but had some challenges keeping runners off base. A strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB) of over three suggests that control was generally good and could be a key factor against a Rays lineup known for patience at the plate.

Defensively, last year's fielding percentage stood at almost 99 percent with only 71 errors across more than five thousand total chances – indicating a strong defensive unit capable of supporting their pitchers by limiting opponents' extra outs.

Tropicana Field has its own quirks which can influence any game – from its artificial turf surface affecting ball speed to unique ground rules due to catwalks in foul territory – both teams will need to adjust accordingly.

Fans can watch this matchup live on MLB Network as it unfolds on March 28th at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg; first pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM EDT.
