Did Braves' Seventh-Inning Surge Fall Short Against Nationals?

The Braves struggled offensively through the first six innings, managing only two hits and no runs. However, they mounted a significant comeback attempt in the seventh inning. The team recorded four hits and scored all four of their runs during this inning. Despite this surge, it was not enough to overcome the deficit created by Washington's early lead.

Atlanta's pitching staff had a challenging day on the mound. Starter Charlie Morton pitched for 5.2 innings but allowed eight earned runs on twelve hits, including one home run. Morton's ERA for this game stood at 12.706 with seven strikeouts and two walks issued.

In contrast, Washington's Mitchell Parker delivered an effective performance as their starting pitcher. Parker pitched for six innings and conceded no runs while striking out nine batters from Atlanta’s lineup.

Washington took control of the game early by scoring four runs in the first inning off four hits. They continued to build their lead with additional runs in each of the next two innings and capped it off with two more in the sixth inning.

For Atlanta’s hitters, there were few bright spots outside of that seventh-inning rally where they managed to string together multiple hits including one double and one home run which accounted for all their scoring efforts.

Defensively both teams were solid as neither committed any errors throughout nine innings of play; however Atlanta did manage to turn one double play compared to none by Washington.

Looking ahead, fans can catch Atlanta Braves' next matchup against these same Nationals on May 28th at Truist Park in Atlanta starting at 7:20 PM Eastern Time broadcasted live on BSSO network.
