Tennessee Volunteers Dominate Oklahoma Sooners with Stellar Defense and Teamwork at Thompson-Boling Arena

The Tennessee Volunteers showcased their prowess on the court with a commanding 89-66 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners, improving their record to 1-0. The Sooners, despite their efforts, fell short and now stand at 0-1.

First Half


The game kicked off with the Vols establishing an early lead, scoring 45 points in the first half while limiting the Sooners to 36. Tennessee's defense was relentless, as they recorded a total of 5 blocks and forced numerous turnovers from Oklahoma. Felix Okpara was instrumental in this defensive effort, contributing significantly with his presence in the paint.


Second Half


In the second half, Tennessee continued to assert dominance by adding another 44 points to their tally. The Vols' offensive strategy was well-executed through effective ball movement that resulted in a total of 22 assists for the game. Ja'Kobi Gillespie stood out with his playmaking ability and defensive prowess, recording an impressive number of steals that disrupted Oklahoma's rhythm.

Oklahoma's Struggles


Despite a valiant effort from Oklahoma's side, they struggled against Tennessee’s cohesive team play. The Sooners managed only a field goal percentage of 46 percent compared to Tennessee’s more efficient shooting performance. Their attempts were often thwarted by Tennessee’s aggressive defense which led to multiple fast-break opportunities for Rocky Top.
