Brewers' Late Game Heroics Not Enough in 10-Inning Battle Against Cubs

In a closely contested game that extended into extra innings, the Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Chicago Cubs with a final score of 6-3. The Brewers, now standing at 31-23, faced off against the Cubs who improved their record to 28-27. Despite a valiant effort, the home team couldn't capitalize on their late-game momentum.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings as both teams struggled to find their rhythm at American Family Field. It wasn't until the third inning that the Cubs broke through, scoring one run and setting the stage for what would become an intense back-and-forth battle. The Brewers managed to keep pace initially, holding the Cubs at bay while trying to ignite their offense.

Milwaukee's hitters faced challenges throughout the night, managing only three hits against Chicago's pitching staff. Despite this struggle at bat, they showed resilience by pushing three runs across home plate in total—two of which came in a dramatic tenth inning that momentarily breathed life into their comeback hopes.

On defense and on the mound, Milwaukee showcased solid performances with no errors and contributions from six assists throughout ten innings. Their fielding was flawless with a perfect fielding percentage (FPCT) of 1.0 but it was not enough to stave off Chicago's late offensive surge.

The bullpen had its moments but ultimately couldn't contain Chicago's hitters when it mattered most. In particular, Trevor Megill took the loss for Milwaukee after allowing five runs in just over four innings pitched by relief pitchers—a stark contrast to an otherwise tight defensive game.

Despite these efforts and a late rally that saw them close within striking distance during extra innings, Milwaukee could not overcome Chicago’s final push which saw them score five runs in the tenth inning alone.

Looking ahead, Brewers fans can catch their team back in action against these same Cubs on May 29th at American Family Field in Milwaukee. The game is scheduled for an evening start and will be broadcasted on BSWI for those unable to attend in person.
