Cardinals Edge Cubs with Late-Inning Heroics at Busch Stadium

The St. Louis Cardinals improved their record to 25-26 after a narrow 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs, who now stand at 27-26. The game, held at Busch Stadium, saw the Cardinals' offense come alive in key moments to secure the win.

The game began with both teams struggling to find their rhythm offensively. The first two innings were scoreless for both sides, with neither team managing a hit in the opening frame. However, things started to change in the third inning when the Cardinals broke through with two runs on two hits.


In the fourth inning, Chicago managed its first hit but failed to convert it into runs. Meanwhile, St. Louis added another run in the fifth inning thanks to a combination of timely hitting and aggressive base running.

The seventh inning proved pivotal as Chicago rallied back with two runs on two hits, narrowing St. Louis's lead and putting pressure on their bullpen. Despite this surge from Chicago, St. Louis's pitching staff managed to hold firm.


Stellar performances from Sonny Gray and JoJo Romero were crucial for St. Louis’s defense throughout most of the game. Gray pitched five innings allowing only one hit while striking out eight batters without giving up any earned runs.

Chicago continued its offensive push into the ninth inning by scoring another run on three hits but fell short as Ryan Helsley closed out his 17th save of the season for St. Louis despite some tense moments.


Offensively for St.Louis , they recorded six hits including home runs that played an essential role in securing four RBIs collectively . Their batting average stood at .194 while maintaining an on-base percentage (OBP) of .324 .


On defense ,the Cardinals committed one error but compensated by executing well-timed plays that kept them ahead throughout most parts of this closely contested match-up .


Looking ahead ,the next game will see The Cardinals face off against Cincinnati Reds scheduled for May 27th at Great American Ball Park located in Cincinnati Ohio starting from around 8:10 PM ET which can be watched live via BSOH network broadcasts.
