Cardinals Narrowly Miss Victory, Rockies Prevail 3-2 at Busch Stadium

The game unfolded with both teams showcasing their defensive prowess early on, keeping the scoreboard unchanged through the initial innings. It wasn't until the third inning that the Rockies managed to break through, scoring their first run and adding two more in the fifth inning. These runs proved crucial for Colorado as they managed to hold off a late surge from St. Louis.


The Cardinals found their rhythm in the sixth inning when they capitalized on four hits to bring in two runs, narrowing Colorado's lead and setting up a tense finish. Despite out-hitting their opponents eight to four over nine innings and showing resilience by leaving eleven runners on base compared to nine by Colorado, St. Louis couldn't overcome their early deficit.

Stellar pitching was on display from both sides throughout this matchup. The Cardinals' bullpen demonstrated efficiency and control by maintaining an ERA of 0.0 over 4.1 innings pitched with an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4:1 and allowing only two hits during their time on mound.


On offense for St. Louis, despite accumulating eight hits and six walks which contributed to a .350 on-base percentage (OBP), converting these opportunities into runs proved challenging as evidenced by leaving eleven runners stranded across all innings combined.

For Colorado's part, timely hitting in conjunction with solid pitching performances were key factors in securing victory away from home soil at Busch Stadium under sunny skies with temperatures hovering around 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
