The Cardinals set the tone early in the game, amassing a total of 14 hits and capitalizing on every opportunity presented to them. The second inning was particularly notable as they scored four runs off five hits, demonstrating their ability to cluster hits and maximize scoring opportunities. Overall, their performance was highlighted by an impressive team batting average of .359 and an on-base percentage (OBP) of .381 for the game.


Alec Burleson emerged as one of the standout performers for the Cardinals, boasting an exceptional batting average of .750 along with three runs batted in (RBI). His OBP stood at .600, contributing significantly to his team's offensive output. Brendan Donovan also made his presence felt with a batting average of .400 and three RBIs while maintaining an OBP of .400. Another noteworthy contribution came from Nolan Gorman who hit a home run among his efforts that brought two RBIs home.

On the mound for St. Louis was Sonny Gray who pitched seven innings with an earned run average (ERA) of 6.429 but managed to strike out opponents at a rate of nearly 13 per nine innings (K9), showcasing his ability to get outs when needed despite allowing five earned runs.


The Braves fought valiantly but were unable to match the offensive output from St. Louis despite putting up five runs themselves. Their efforts were hampered by one error which contributed to their inability to contain the surging Cardinals offense.
