The Cardinals' offense struggled to find its rhythm against the Pirates' pitchers, managing a batting average of just .129 with an on-base percentage (OBP) equally low at .129. However, Nolan Arenado stood out by hitting a crucial home run that contributed significantly to the team's victory. On the mound, St. Louis pitchers were exceptional. Starter Michael Lynn pitched five innings without allowing any runs and maintained an earned run average (ERA) of 0.0 while holding his opponents to a .318 OBP. The bullpen was equally effective; Ryan Helsley struck out five batters in just two innings pitched, showcasing an extraordinary strikeout rate (K9) of 27.0 and maintaining his ERA at 0.0.
