The Cardinals demonstrated their hitting prowess early on by scoring one run in the first inning followed by two more runs in both the third and fourth innings. Their performance at bat was highlighted by a total of nine hits over the course of the game. Notably, Nolan Arenado and Alec Burleson made significant contributions to their team's success. Arenado hit an impressive .500 average for this game along with maintaining a flawless fielding percentage, which played a crucial role in denying any additional runs from the Rays. Similarly, Burleson matched Arenado's batting average while driving in two crucial RBIs that contributed to widening the lead against Tampa Bay.

On defense, every Cardinal player who took to the field maintained a perfect fielding percentage throughout all nine innings, ensuring no errors were committed that could have allowed Tampa Bay to capitalize on any mistakes. This impeccable defense was complemented by strong pitching performances from Erick Fedde and Ryan Helsley among others; Fedde boasted an ERA of 1.8 after five innings pitched while Helsley struck out batters at an impressive rate of 18 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

The Rays managed eight hits but were only able to convert these into two runs due to St. Louis' tight defense and strategic pitching changes when necessary. Despite their efforts and managing to get runners on base during critical moments of the match, they struggled against St Louis' bullpen which showcased resilience especially towards closing stages of the game.

Looking ahead, fans can anticipate another exciting matchup as The Cardinals are set to host The Rays once again at Busch Stadium located in St Louis MO on August 8th at 7:15 PM EDT. This encounter promises more action as both teams vie for dominance early in this series' games broadcasted live on BSSUN for fans not able to attend in person.
