First Inning

The game began with both teams eager to establish dominance. The Cubs quickly took control in the first inning, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. The Cards struggled to find their rhythm early on, failing to register any hits or runs in response.

Second Inning

In the second inning, Chicago continued their offensive push by adding another pair of runs and increasing their lead. Meanwhile, St. Louis remained scoreless and hitless as they tried to adjust their strategy against a formidable Cubs lineup.

Third Inning

The third inning saw an explosive performance from Chicago's bats as they scored an additional three runs off three hits. The Redbirds were unable to counter this surge and remained without a hit or run through this period.

Fourth Inning

St. Louis finally broke through in the fourth inning when Brendan Donovan managed a solo home run that put them on the scoreboard for the first time in this matchup. Despite this effort, it was clear that more would be needed from other players if they hoped for a comeback against such strong opposition.

Fifth Through Seventh Innings

As play progressed into these middle innings (fifth through seventh), both teams showed resilience but only one team emerged victorious during these frames: Chicago added another four combined runs across these innings while maintaining defensive pressure which kept St.Louis largely contained until late-game opportunities arose again later downfield towards closing moments where some success might have been found had things gone differently earlier instead perhaps?

Eighth And Ninth Innings

In what seemed like too little too late scenario unfolding before fans eyes here today unfortunately - despite valiant efforts made by key players such as Lars Nootbaar who contributed significantly during ninth-inning rally attempt alongside others trying hard alongside him throughout entire contest overall still ultimately fell short due largely because lackluster performances earlier stages left much desired improvement wise moving forward next time around hopefully better luck awaits them then maybe?
