The game started off promising for the home team as they managed to secure an early lead with a run in the first inning followed by another in the second, thanks to their hitting performance which included two home runs and seven hits overall. However, despite their efforts and a batting average of .233, they couldn't maintain their momentum throughout the nine innings.

The Cubs' pitchers struggled to contain the Cardinals' offense. The bullpen allowed five earned runs over five innings pitched, resulting in an ERA of 9.0 for this group. Overall pitching for the Cubs ended with an ERA of 6.0 across nine innings, striking out nine batters but also giving up ten hits and six earned runs.

Defensively, both teams played error-free baseball which kept base runners primarily dependent on hits rather than fielding mistakes. The Cubs showed solid fielding stats with a perfect fielding percentage (FPCT) of 1.0 and provided nine assists throughout the game.

On offense, several statistics stood out for Chicago: three extra-base hits contributed to a slugging percentage (SLG) of .500 and an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .794; however, they left four men on base when scoring opportunities presented themselves.

As for St. Louis's performance that led them to victory: Their hitters accumulated ten hits including three doubles contributing significantly to their six-run tally which was bolstered by strong showings in both sixth and seventh innings where they scored two and three runs respectively.

Looking ahead after this tough loss at Sloan Park – fans can catch Chicago's next attempt at victory against these same St. Louis Cardinals on March 26th at Sloan Park again; it will be broadcasted live on ESPN+ starting from 7:05 PM local time (US/Arizona).
