Cubs Narrowly Miss Victory in Late Marlins Surge at Wrigley Field

In a closely contested match, the Chicago Cubs now stand with a 12-8 record after falling to the Miami Marlins, who improved to 5-16. The final score read 3-2 in favor of the visitors.

The game unfolded under partly cloudy skies with temperatures hovering around 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite the chilly weather, fans filled Wrigley Field, with an attendance of 36,379 witnessing the day's events. The Cubs' offense struggled to capitalize on opportunities throughout the game, managing seven hits but leaving eight runners stranded on base. Their scoring was confined to a single inning where they pushed across two runs thanks to three hits.

Chicago's pitching staff held their ground for most of the contest. The starters posted an earned run average (ERA) of just under two and kept their walks and hits per innings pitched (WHIP) at a respectable 1.2857 over nearly five innings of work. However, it was in relief where things took a turn; despite striking out three over four and one-third innings and maintaining an ERA slightly above four, Adbert Alzolay suffered his second loss and fourth blown save of the season.

On defense, Chicago was flawless with no errors recorded and turning one double play while posting a perfect fielding percentage (FPCT). In contrast, Miami committed one error during play but managed to outscore their hosts by capitalizing late in the game with two runs in the ninth inning.

For Miami's part, Calvin Faucher secured his first win while Tanner Scott notched his third save despite having three losses already this season. Yency Almonte contributed significantly as well by holding onto his fifth hold amidst one blown save earlier this year.

As for individual performances from Chicago's side that stood out: despite limited offensive output overall – only hitting .212 as a team – they did manage seven hits including six singles and one triple throughout nine innings against Miami’s pitchers who threw a total pitch count of 148 balls.

The Cubs will look ahead now as they prepare for another encounter against Miami Marlins at Wrigley Field on April 20th at 6:40 PM local time (Central Time Zone). Fans can catch all action live on MARQ network as both teams take up arms once again on Chicago’s historic grass surface stadium hoping for favorable outcomes before their dedicated supporters.
