Can the Cubs Claw Back Against the Mets at Citi Field?

As the Chicago Cubs prepare to face off against the New York Mets at Citi Field, fans are left wondering if their team can bounce back from a recent string of mixed performances. The upcoming game on April 29th promises to be a critical juncture for the Cubs, who have shown both flashes of brilliance and moments of vulnerability in their recent outings.

In their last game against the Miami Marlins on April 21st, despite being out-hit 11 to 8 by Miami, Chicago's pitching staff managed to keep things relatively tight. However, it wasn't enough as they fell short with a final score of 6-3 in favor of Miami. The bullpen held its own with an ERA of 3.6 over five innings pitched but will need to tighten up further as they allowed an OBP (on-base percentage) of .333 and SLG (slugging percentage) .368.

The batting lineup struggled with an average hitting rate (.222 AVG), leaving too many players stranded on base (LOB). With a total pitch count at 150 and only three runs batted in (RBI), it's clear that efficiency at-bat needs improvement. One positive takeaway was their perfect stolen base percentage; however, this alone won't win games.

On April 20th against Miami again, there was more promise shown by CHC with a narrow victory scoring five runs off seven hits. This time around, clutch hitting made all the difference as they capitalized during key moments which is something they'll want to replicate against NYM.

The previous day's doubleheader saw another close contest but ultimately ended in disappointment for CHC fans as they lost by one run despite matching Marlins' eight hits each. A silver lining from this game was better control from pitchers who kept walks down and maintained a lower WHIP (Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched).

Looking ahead to facing NYM at Citi Field presents both challenges and opportunities for CHC. The Mets are known for their strong offense which means that pitching will once again be under scrutiny; starters must go deep into games providing quality innings while relievers need precision under pressure situations.

For CHC hitters, patience at plate appearances could pay dividends – working counts and forcing NYM pitchers into mistakes could be key in creating scoring opportunities especially given past struggles with runners in scoring position (RISP).
