In an intense battle at Fenway Park, the Cubs' offense managed to accumulate seven hits throughout the game but fell just short as they were outscored by the Red Sox. Despite a late surge that saw three runs batted in during the eighth inning, it wasn't enough to secure victory. The team's hitting statistics reflected their struggle at bat; they had an average of .206 and an on-base percentage (OBP) of .229. Their slugging percentage (SLG) stood at .294.

The Cubs' pitching staff had moments of effectiveness but ultimately gave up five earned runs over eight innings pitched. The bullpen was responsible for three of those runs and posted an earned run average (ERA) for the game at 6.75 over four innings pitched, while starters maintained a more respectable ERA at 2.25 across four innings as well.

On defense, Chicago committed one error which contributed to their loss. Their fielding percentage was recorded at .966 for this outing.

Boston's hitters put up nine hits leading to five runs scored against Cubs pitchers. Kenley Jansen from the Red Sox secured his fifth save despite having one blown save this season while Mark Leiter Jr., representing Chicago's bullpen took his first loss after being handed five holds earlier in this campaign.
