The Cubs started strong with two runs and three hits in the first inning but encountered resistance as both teams struggled to score in the subsequent innings. It wasn't until the tenth inning that Chicago broke through, adding three crucial runs on three hits. Overall, the Cubs tallied nine hits throughout the game and maintained a flawless defensive performance with no errors.

The bullpen recorded an ERA of 3.6 over five innings pitched, striking out five batters and allowing two earned runs on six hits. Starters also held their ground with an ERA of 1.8 across five innings pitched, limiting Pittsburgh to just two hits.

Offensively, Chicago showed resilience and strategic prowess despite facing tough opposition from Pittsburgh's pitchers. The team's hitting statistics reveal a collective effort with nine total bases hit including two home runs that significantly contributed to their scoring opportunities.


Onbase success was critical for Chicago as they managed an on-base percentage (OBP) of .356 coupled with six walks drawn from Pittsburgh pitchers which helped maintain pressure throughout all ten innings played.

The Pirates put up a formidable fight themselves but fell just short of victory despite rallying back late in the game to tie it before extra innings ensued. Their hitters accumulated eight hits leading to four runs scored against Chicago's pitchers who displayed commendable control and execution under pressure.
