Cubs' Late Rally Falls Short as Braves Dominate Seventh Inning

The Chicago Cubs, now standing at 27-23, faced off against the Atlanta Braves, who improved their record to 28-18. The game concluded with a final score of 9-2 in favor of the Braves.

The Cubs struggled offensively throughout most of the game. They managed only three hits and two runs over nine innings. The first five innings saw no runs from either team, but the sixth inning brought some hope for Chicago when they scored their first run. However, it was not enough to shift momentum in their favor.

In contrast, the Braves capitalized on key moments to secure their victory. Their pivotal third inning saw them scoring two runs off three hits. This early lead set the tone for what would become a dominant performance by Atlanta's offense.

The seventh inning proved decisive for both teams. While Chicago's bullpen allowed six runs on four hits during this frame, Atlanta's hitters took full advantage of every opportunity presented to them. This surge effectively sealed the game for the Braves and left little room for a comeback by Chicago.

Despite a late effort in the eighth inning where they added another run with two hits, including one extra-base hit (a double), it was too little too late for Chicago as they couldn't overcome Atlanta’s substantial lead.

On defense, both teams committed one error each but maintained solid fielding overall with high fielding percentages above .970 percent respectively; however these minor mistakes did not significantly impact either side’s performance or outcome directly.

Pitching-wise: Justin Steele started strong but ultimately took his second loss after allowing five earned runs over six innings pitched while striking out five batters along way before being relieved by bullpen which struggled further giving up additional four earned runs across remaining three frames combined resulting total ERA around eight point zero mark collectively among all pitchers used during contest meanwhile Max Fried secured fourth win season delivering impressive outing holding opponents scoreless through initial five frames despite conceding few scattered base runners here there eventually finishing line seven complete innings yielding just single earned run alongside tallying seven strikeouts himself demonstrating why he remains one top starters league today

Looking ahead: fans can catch next matchup between these same two clubs scheduled take place tomorrow evening at Wrigley Field starting approximately 6:20 PM local time broadcast live via BSSO network providing another chance see whether hometown favorites bounce back redeem themselves against formidable opponent like current division leading squad hailing from Georgia
