Cubs' Ninth-Inning Rally Falls Short Against Brewers

The game remained scoreless through seven innings as both teams struggled to generate offense. The Cubs managed only five hits throughout the game and left thirteen runners on base. Their batting average for the game was .161, reflecting their difficulties at the plate.


Chicago's starting pitcher delivered an impressive performance, pitching seven innings without allowing a run and striking out eight batters. However, it was in the eighth inning that things took a turn for the worse for Chicago. Reliever Mark Leiter Jr., who has been reliable this season with seven holds and only two losses prior to this game, gave up four earned runs along with one unearned run during his brief appearance on the mound.

Milwaukee capitalized on this opportunity by scoring all five of their runs in that pivotal eighth inning. Bryan Hudson secured his third win of the season after coming in as relief for Milwaukee and shutting down Chicago's offense effectively.


Despite being down by five runs heading into the ninth inning, Chicago showed resilience by scoring one run thanks to timely hitting but ultimately fell short as they couldn't close out any further gap against Milwaukee’s bullpen which held strong till endgame whistle blew signaling conclusion match-up between these two fierce rivals within division standings currently ongoing throughout regular season schedule play-offs looming ahead soon enough!
