The game began with the Cubs setting an aggressive tone early on, scoring two runs in the first inning from just one hit. This momentum continued into the third inning where they added another run to their tally. However, it was during the seventh inning that the Cubs truly broke away, hammering home four runs from three hits. They sealed their victory with an additional two runs in the ninth inning, bringing their total for the game to nine runs off nine hits.

Patrick Wisdom stood out for his exceptional performance by hitting a home run and driving in four RBIs on a perfect batting average of 1.000. Seiya Suzuki also made significant contributions with a .500 batting average, including a home run and two RBIs. Pete Crow-Armstrong had an impressive showing as well, hitting .500 and slugging at an impressive rate of 1.5.

On defense, Julian Merryweather secured a win for his team despite an ERA of 9.0 and WHIP standing at 3.0 over his pitching duration; he did not record any strikeouts but managed to keep his composure under pressure.

The Royals tried to mount a comeback with five hits leading to three runs in the sixth inning but were unable to overcome their deficit fully despite matching Chicago's nine hits due to less effective conversion into runs.
