Cubs' Offensive Struggles

The Cubs managed to score only twice during their encounter with the Padres. Their first run came in the third inning when they recorded two hits, including a single by Ian Happ who had an impressive batting average of .750 from his four at-bats. The second run was added in the eighth inning as Carson Kelly crossed home plate after contributing one hit and one run from his three appearances at bat.

Despite these efforts, Chicago's offense struggled overall with just six hits and leaving six runners on base throughout nine innings. Seiya Suzuki contributed with a .250 batting average but was unable to drive any runs home. The team's inability to convert opportunities into runs was evident as they went just 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

On defense, Pete Crow-Armstrong showcased his fielding prowess with no errors and maintained a perfect fielding percentage of 1.0 during this matchup.

Padres Capitalize on Key Moments

San Diego took advantage of crucial moments that ultimately led them to victory over Chicago's squad. In particular, their third inning saw two runs scored off three hits which set them ahead early on; this momentum continued into later innings where additional runs were added through strategic plays such as sacrifice flies or timely hitting sequences like those seen during both seventh (one run) & eighth (one more) frames respectively - totaling four overall by game's end without committing any errors defensively either!

The pitching staff for San Diego also played an integral role: holding opponents down effectively enough so that even though there were some close calls along way due largely thanks strong performances from starters/bullpen alike who combined allowed only two earned runs across entire contest while striking out nine batters collectively too!
