First Inning

The game began with a quiet first inning for both teams. The Cubs were unable to make any headway against the Nats' starting pitcher as they went hitless. Meanwhile, the Nationals managed to score their first run of the night thanks to two hits that set up a scoring opportunity.

Second Inning

In the second inning, Chicago's offense started to show signs of life. The Cubbies scored their first run of the game with one hit and capitalized on a defensive lapse by Washington. However, this was not enough to take control as both teams remained neck-and-neck.

The third inning saw another surge from Washington as they added two more runs to their tally with just one hit. This brief lead put pressure on Chicago's pitching staff but did not deter them from staying focused on their strategy.

Fourth Inning

Chicago responded in kind during the fourth inning by scoring two runs off two hits. This effort tied up the game once again and showcased some solid batting performances from key players like Michael Busch who had an impressive .750 average in his previous outing.

Fifth Inning

It was in this pivotal fifth inning that Chicago truly turned up the heat against Washington's defense. The North Side team exploded for four runs off four hits which included extra-base efforts that rattled Nats' pitchers and shifted momentum decisively towards Chicago’s favor.

Sixth through Ninth Innings

From thereon out till endgame (ninth), despite several attempts by Washington including adding six more hits across these innings – they couldn’t convert those into additional scores due largely due strong bullpen work led Caleb Thielbar whose ERA stood at zero previously; ensuring no further damage occurred post-fifth frame while also maintaining composure throughout rest match duration alongside other relievers such Ryan Pressly & Genesis Cabrera contributing effectively too!
