First Inning

The game began with both teams struggling to find their rhythm offensively. The Cubs managed just one hit in the first inning while keeping the Pirates scoreless with a single hit as well. Cade Horton took the mound for Chicago and delivered a solid performance early on, maintaining an impressive earned run average of 0.0 and allowing only three hits over his tenure.

Middle Innings

As the innings progressed, both teams continued to grapple with finding offensive momentum. By the fourth inning, neither team had managed to put any runs on the board despite several attempts from both sides. Pete Crow-Armstrong contributed defensively for Chicago with flawless fielding throughout these middle innings.

In terms of pitching prowess during this stretch, Brad Keller and Daniel Palencia provided relief for Horton by maintaining pressure on Pittsburgh's lineup without conceding any runs through strategic pitching changes.

Eighth Inning

The eighth inning saw some action as each team finally broke through defensively strong performances from opposing pitchers earlier in playtime; however it was not until then that either side scored: Seiya Suzuki's consistent batting average (.400) helped set up Nico Hoerner’s critical RBI single which brought home Ian Happ – tying things up briefly before heading into ninth frame tied one-all apiece!

Extra Innings

With tension mounting high among fans present within stadium walls (attendance recorded at nearly full capacity), extra innings commenced after neither squad could clinch victory during regulation timeframes alone! Unfortunately though despite valiant efforts made by North Side players like Caleb Thielbar who maintained zero earned run average across multiple appearances recently - they ultimately fell short when Andrew McCutchen drove winning run across plate securing win late night showdown between these two competitive clubs battling hard till very end indeed!
