First Inning

The game began with a promising start for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they managed to score their only run in the first inning. The Bucs capitalized on an early opportunity with a hit that brought home a runner. However, this would be one of only five hits allowed by the Cubs throughout the game.

Third Inning

In response, the Cubs found their rhythm in the third inning when Dansby Swanson stepped up and delivered a crucial hit that brought in Chicago's first run. Swanson's performance was pivotal as he maintained his impressive form from previous games. His contribution not only leveled the score but also set a positive tone for his teammates.

Sixth Inning

The sixth inning saw another breakthrough for Chicago when Ian Happ made his mark by driving in what would become the winning run. Happ's ability to perform under pressure has been instrumental for Chicago this season and was once again on display during this tight contest against Pittsburgh.

Seventh Inning Onwards

From there on out, it was all about defense and pitching excellence from both sides. The Cubs' bullpen proved impenetrable after taking over from starter Matthew Boyd who pitched six solid innings allowing just one earned run while striking out three batters with an ERA of 1.5 during this outing.

Relievers Daniel Palencia and Ryan Pressly were called upon later in relief roles; Palencia showcased exceptional control without giving up any walks while Pressly closed things down effectively despite some tense moments created by base runners late into proceedings - ultimately securing victory thanks largely due diligence displayed across entire pitching staff collectively holding opponents scoreless post-first-inning scare!

Meanwhile backfield efforts remained equally commendable: Nico Hoerner demonstrated sharp fielding skills alongside fellow infielder Matt Shaw ensuring no errors committed defensively throughout match-up which further bolstered overall team confidence heading towards final stages where every play counted significantly more than ever before given how closely contested affair turned out being between these two rivals battling hard till very end!
