Second Inning

The second inning saw the Cardinals take an early lead by scoring 2 runs on 3 hits. The Cubs struggled to find their rhythm initially, managing only one hit in this inning without any runs to show for it. This set the stage for what would become a back-and-forth contest.

Third Inning

In an explosive third inning, both teams showcased their offensive capabilities. The Cubs responded emphatically with a flurry of hits that resulted in 5 runs, highlighted by key contributions from Nico Hoerner and Seiya Suzuki who were instrumental in driving those runs home. However, the Cards matched this effort by adding another pair of runs to their tally through strategic hitting.

Fifth Through Seventh Innings

As both teams settled into defensive rhythms during these innings, neither side managed to add further scores until Chicago found some momentum again in the sixth inning when they added two more runs thanks largely due to Kyle Tucker’s consistent presence at bat alongside Ian Happ’s efforts which kept them within striking distance.
