Diamondbacks Outlast Guardians in Extra Innings at Progressive Field

The Arizona Diamondbacks, with a record of 61-52, faced off against the Cleveland Guardians, who came into the game with a 67-45 record. In a closely contested match that went into extra innings, the Diamondbacks emerged victorious with a final score of 7-6.

From the outset, the Diamondbacks showed their intent by scoring two runs in the first inning, thanks to their aggressive hitting which resulted in four hits. Despite not scoring in the second through fifth innings, they managed to add two more runs in the sixth and another two in the eighth inning before sealing their win with one run in the tenth inning. Overall, Arizona tallied ten hits and capitalized on crucial moments without committing any errors throughout ten innings.


Key performances from Diamondback players included Ketel Marte and Joc Pederson. Marte showcased his power by hitting a home run and contributing one RBI while maintaining an on-base percentage of .400 and slugging percentage of 1.000 for an OPS of 1.4. Pederson made his only at-bat count significantly by hitting a home run that brought his slugging percentage to an impressive 4.0 and OPS to 5.0.

On the pitching side for Arizona, Kevin Ginkel and Justin Martinez both delivered shutout innings from the bullpen with ERA's at 0.0 while showcasing high strikeout rates per nine innings at 13.5 and 18 respectively.


The Guardians put up a strong fight as well, matching Arizona's hit total with ten but fell just short by one run despite rallying late in the game to tie it up before heading into extra innings.
