Throughout the game, both teams showcased their defensive prowess under overcast conditions at PETCO Park. The Dodgers managed to secure four hits but were only able to convert these into a single run during the eighth inning. Despite their efforts, they left seven teammates stranded on base and had four opportunities with runners in scoring position which they could not capitalize on.

The Dodgers' pitching staff held strong for most of the game, maintaining an impressive earned run average (ERA) of 2.16 across 8.1 innings pitched. They struck out thirteen batters while giving up just three hits and two earned runs. The bullpen contributed significantly but allowed one run over 1.1 innings which ultimately proved decisive.

Conversely, The Padres capitalized on their opportunities despite only managing three hits throughout the game. Their scoring came from timely hitting in both third and ninth innings which was enough to edge past The Dodgers.
