The Mariners started strong with an early run in the first inning. Despite this promising beginning, they struggled to maintain momentum throughout the game. Seattle's offense managed only five hits and one run over nine innings. The team’s batting average for the game was .156, and they left ten runners on base.

Seattle's pitching staff had a challenging outing. George Kirby took the loss for Seattle, bringing his season record to 4-5. He pitched six innings but allowed five earned runs on six hits, including two home runs by Washington batters. The bullpen also faced difficulties; although they struck out two batters over two innings, they allowed one additional run.

On defense, however, Seattle performed flawlessly without committing any errors and successfully caught one attempted steal by Washington.

The Nationals broke through in the fourth inning with three runs on five hits. This offensive burst set the tone for their victory as they added two more runs in the sixth inning and another insurance run in the eighth inning.
