In an offensive showcase that saw a combined total of 26 hits, the Marlins put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell short against the Nationals. The home team started strong with six runs in the first inning, capitalizing on six hits and an error by their opponents. However, this early lead was not enough to secure victory as they struggled to maintain their momentum throughout the later innings.

The Marlins' hitters had a productive day at the plate with an overall batting average of .316 and an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .974. They managed to get twelve hits during the game but left nineteen runners on base which proved costly. Despite these impressive statistics, it was not enough to overcome their defensive shortcomings.

Defensively, Miami encountered challenges that contributed to their loss. The team committed two errors and finished with a fielding percentage of .939. These mistakes allowed additional opportunities for Washington's lineup which they capitalized upon effectively.

On the mound for Miami was Anthony Bender who suffered his second loss of the season after allowing six earned runs over his appearance. The bullpen also struggled with control issues resulting in two wild pitches and contributing to an overall earned run average (ERA) for relievers at 10.8 for this game.

Washington's offense was relentless throughout much of the contest as they recorded fourteen hits including two home runs that helped them build up their winning margin. Derek Law from Washington secured his second win while Kyle Finnegan notched his ninth save despite having one blown save earlier this season.

As fans look ahead, they can mark their calendars for another matchup between these two teams scheduled on April 29th at loanDepot park in Miami where fans can tune into MASN2 network for live coverage starting at 6:40 PM Eastern Time.
