The game was marked by strong pitching performances from both sides, but it was the Mets who capitalized on their opportunities. The second inning proved pivotal for the home team as they scored two runs to take an early lead. The Mets' offense managed to match the Cardinals with five hits each, but it was their ability to convert those hits into runs that made the difference.

Defensively, both teams were nearly flawless, though each committed one error during play. The Mets' fielding efforts were highlighted by eleven assists and twenty-seven putouts, contributing to a .974 fielding percentage which helped keep the Cardinals at bay.

On offense, despite having an average of just .172 and leaving ten runners on base, critical plays came through when needed most for the Mets. They showed patience at bat with eight walks and maintained pressure throughout all innings. A notable performance came from their hitting statistics which included two extra-base hits and three runs batted in (RBI), two of which came with two outs – showcasing timely hitting under pressure.

The bullpen played a crucial role in maintaining this lead; over four innings pitched they allowed no runs while striking out five batters and holding opponents to a mere .071 batting average against them. Their WHIP stood impressively low at 0.5 due to allowing only one hit and one walk during their time on mound.

As for pitching overall, it was another area where the Mets excelled; they posted an ERA of 1.0 across nine innings pitched while striking out eleven batters compared to just two walks given up – demonstrating control and power from their pitchers throughout all nine frames.

Looking ahead after this hard-fought win against St Louis Cardinals, New York Mets fans can catch their team's next game against Miami Marlins scheduled for March 20th at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter FL at 5:10 PM Eastern Time Zone on BSFL network.
