Mets Stumble Against Braves, Fall 9-2 in Series Opener

The game saw the Braves taking an early lead with a significant fourth inning, scoring four runs off three hits. They solidified their victory with three more runs in the seventh and two in the eighth, totaling nine runs from eight hits throughout the game. The Mets struggled to find their rhythm against Atlanta's pitching, managing only two runs from seven hits.

For the Mets, standout performances came from Peter Alonso and Tyrone Taylor. Alonso showcased his power hitting with one home run and two RBIs, maintaining an impressive .500 average for this game. Taylor also shined brightly with a .667 batting average and an on-base percentage of .750.

On the pitching side, David Peterson started for the Mets but encountered difficulties, ending his outing with an ERA of 7.2 after allowing four earned runs over five innings pitched. Jacob Diekman experienced challenges out of the bullpen as well, posting an ERA of 18.0 by conceding five earned runs.

Despite these efforts, it was not enough to counteract Atlanta's offensive onslaught or their tight defense which committed no errors during play. The Braves' strategic plays and consistent scoring across multiple innings left little room for a Mets comeback.
