Can Mets' Pitching Silence Brewers' Bats in Next Showdown?

The New York Mets faced a challenging game, ending with an 87-72 record, while the Milwaukee Brewers improved their standing to 93-68. The final score stood at 6-0 in favor of the Brewers, marking a tough outing for the Mets.

Mets Struggle at the Plate

Throughout the game, the Mets struggled to find their rhythm offensively. With only two hits across nine innings, their batting average was a mere .067. Despite reaching base three times - once on a double and once via walk - they failed to capitalize on these opportunities, leaving ten runners stranded on base. The team's performance at bat was further highlighted by an inability to drive in runs or make significant contact, evidenced by an OPS (On-base Plus Slugging) of just .197.

Starling Marte and Jose Iglesias were the only players who managed to hit safely for the Mets. Marte showcased his skill with a batting average of .333 and an OPS of 1.0 for this game, including hitting one double which accounted for one of the team's extra-base hits. On the other hand, Iglesias also contributed with a .333 batting average and reached base half of his plate appearances.

Pitching Efforts Not Enough

On the mound, Jose Quintana started for the Mets but encountered challenges against a strong Brewers lineup. He posted an ERA (Earned Run Average) of 4.154 over 4.1 innings pitched but couldn't prevent two earned runs from scoring under his watch. The bullpen didn't fare much better; Reed Garrett notably struggled with an ERA of 54 after allowing four earned runs without recording any outs.

Despite these efforts from pitchers like Phil Maton and Ryne Stanek who maintained ERAs of 0 during their appearances and showed potential in striking out opponents at high rates (21.6 K/9 for Maton), it wasn't enough to stifle Milwaukee’s offense which capitalized heavily in later innings.
