Mets' Offensive Struggles

The New York Mets faced significant challenges in generating offense against a resilient Astros pitching staff. With only two hits across nine innings, their batting lineup struggled to find its rhythm. The team's on-base percentage was notably low at .167, reflecting difficulties in creating scoring opportunities. Among individual performances, José Azocar stood out by securing one of the two hits for his team and maintaining an on-base percentage of .333 for this game.

Brett Baty and Francisco Lindor were among those who couldn't break through Houston's defense, contributing to an overall team batting average of just .074 during this matchup. Despite reaching base three times via walks, which accounted for all of Mets' bases on balls in this game, they failed to convert these chances into runs.

Astros Capitalize Where Mets Could Not

On the other side, the Houston Astros demonstrated efficiency both at bat and on the mound. Their hitters managed ten hits leading to five runs scored over nine innings. The second and fourth innings were particularly productive for them as they put up four combined runs during these frames.

Houston’s pitchers collectively held an earned run average (ERA) of 5.00 against Mets batters but proved effective by limiting them to just two hits all game long. Their ability to strike out eleven batters while walking only three played a crucial role in suppressing any potential rallies from New York.
