At Nationals Park, fans witnessed an intense matchup where both teams displayed solid performances. The home team managed to out-hit the Phillies with eight hits compared to their five. Despite this offensive effort from Washington, it was their pitching that ultimately sealed the victory. The bullpen was particularly effective, allowing no runs over 3.1 innings and striking out four batters while maintaining an impeccable WHIP of just 0.3.

Washington's hitters showed discipline at the plate drawing four walks and stealing five bases successfully – showcasing aggressive baserunning that paid dividends in this tight game. Their ability to get on base was reflected in their .333 on-base percentage and they left nine runners stranded throughout the contest.

The Nationals' defense played error-free baseball which complemented their pitching staff's efforts effectively. They turned two double plays and had a perfect fielding percentage for the game.

On offense for Washington, key hits came when they mattered most as they converted two out of eleven opportunities with runners in scoring position into runs scored – one being crucial RBI during two-out situations which contributed significantly to their narrow win.

MacKenzie Gore earned his first win of the season for his role in starting for Washington while Cristopher Sánchez took his first loss after starting on the mound for Philadelphia. Kyle Finnegan secured his third save of this season by closing out any hopes of a comeback from Philadelphia in dramatic fashion.
