Washington's offense was on fire from the start, scoring four runs in the first inning off four hits. This early surge set the tone for a game where they accumulated a total of 15 hits and eight runs without committing any errors. The team’s batting average for this game was an impressive .395.

The Nationals continued their offensive momentum into the second and third innings, adding one run each inning. By the end of three innings, Washington had already built a commanding lead with six runs on seven hits. Atlanta struggled offensively until a seventh-inning rally where they managed to score all four of their runs off four hits. Despite this effort, it wasn’t enough to overcome Washington’s substantial lead established earlier in the game.

Charlie Morton took the loss for Atlanta after pitching five innings during which he allowed seven hits and six earned runs while striking out five batters.
