In their most recent encounters, the Nationals have displayed a mixed bag of results but with notable highlights that suggest they're on the cusp of breaking out. On July 4th, in a tightly contested match against the Mets at Nationals Park, Washington edged out New York with a narrow 1-0 victory. This game was a testament to the Nationals' pitching prowess as they managed to keep the Mets' hitters at bay throughout nine innings. The bullpen's performance was particularly stellar, allowing no runs and showcasing an ERA of 0.00 across one inning pitched.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for WSH. In another matchup on July 3rd against NYM at Nationals Park, despite putting up seven runs thanks to an impressive offensive display that included two home runs and nine hits overall, their pitching faltered slightly allowing five runs over nine innings which resulted in a nail-biting finish but ultimately led them to secure victory with a scoreline of 7-5.

The most telling game came on July 2nd when WSH faced NYM in what turned into an extra-innings thriller. Despite being held back by errors from NYM and managing only six hits compared to NYM's eleven hits over ten innings, WSH couldn't capitalize effectively leaving nineteen runners stranded on base which contributed significantly to their downfall as they succumbed with a scoreline of 2-7 after ten innings.

These past performances highlight both strengths and areas for improvement for the Nationals as they head into Citi Field. Their ability to produce crucial hits and drive in runs has been evident; however consistency across both offense and defense remains key if they wish not just compete but dominate against teams like NYM who have shown vulnerability yet also resilience in equal measure.

For fans looking forward towards this clash between these two rivals; expect fireworks as both teams come armed with potent offenses capable of turning any game around irrespective of how bleak it may seem. With strategic hitting placements coupled with aggressive baserunning from WSH expected alongside solid starts from their pitchers aiming limit NYM's scoring opportunities - this upcoming game is poised be not just high-scoring affair but one filled tactical nuances waiting be unraveled by either side.
