From the outset, the Nationals set a high tempo with an explosive first inning that saw them notch four runs on four hits. This early surge proved pivotal as it laid down a marker for the rest of the contest. The team's batting was particularly impressive throughout, accumulating ten hits and driving in six runs over nine innings. A noteworthy performance came from Luis García who demonstrated his offensive capabilities by hitting .750 including a home run and contributing one RBI. His slugging percentage soared to 1.75 while maintaining an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of 2.5.

On the defensive side, DJ Herz started on the mound for the Nationals and delivered an outstanding performance that kept Brewers' hitters in check. Herz finished with an earned run average (ERA) of 0.0 across five innings pitched, striking out six batters while allowing only two hits which limited Milwaukee's ability to build momentum early on.

The bullpen also played its part effectively despite some challenges late in the game. Kyle Finnegan came out of relief to pitch four innings without giving up any earned runs or walks which contributed significantly to maintaining Washington's lead until Derek Law closed out with an ERA of 4.5 but managed to secure crucial outs when needed.

Milwaukee did mount a comeback attempt highlighted by their eighth inning where they scored two runs off three hits but fell short due to Washington's resilient defense and timely pitching changes that neutralized potential threats.
