First Inning

The opening inning saw both teams struggling to make an impact offensively. The Nats managed just one hit while keeping the Amazins scoreless with only one hit as well. This set the stage for what would become a tightly contested matchup.

Second Inning

The second inning proved pivotal for the Expos as they capitalized on their opportunities to score all three of their runs. With three hits and taking advantage of a Mets error, Washington's offense came alive. Jorge Alfaro was instrumental during this period, contributing significantly with his .500 batting average from previous games.

In response, the Amazins managed to get on board in the third inning with one run from three hits. Despite this effort, they couldn't close the gap entirely due to strong pitching by Jake Irvin who maintained an ERA of 3.375 and WHIP of 1.5 in prior performances.

Sixth Inning

As tension mounted in Citi Field during the sixth inning, New York added another run through two hits but failed to capitalize further against Washington's bullpen which held firm throughout its innings pitched without allowing any earned runs.
