Orioles Soar Past Phillies in a High-Scoring Affair at Ed Smith Stadium

The Baltimore Orioles improved their record to 20-5 with a commanding 13-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, who now sit at 8-12. The Orioles' bats were on fire, racking up 12 hits throughout the game.

From the first pitch at Ed Smith Stadium, the Orioles set an aggressive tone. In the opening inning alone, they tallied five runs off four hits. This early surge was critical in setting the pace for what would become a dominant performance by Baltimore's lineup. The second inning saw two more runs added to their tally, further extending their lead.

Baltimore's hitting statistics were particularly impressive. With an average of .324 and an on-base percentage (OBP) of .479, they consistently put pressure on Philadelphia's pitching staff. Their slugging percentage (SLG) stood at .649, contributing to an overall on-base plus slugging (OPS) of 1.128 for the game—a clear indicator of their offensive might.

The seventh inning proved pivotal as Baltimore capitalized on both hits and a fielding error by Philadelphia to bring six more runners home across home plate—cementing their lead with a total of 13 runs batted in (RBI). Clutch hitting was evident as they achieved seven hits with runners in scoring position and drove in five RBIs with two outs.

On defense, despite committing one error themselves, Baltimore remained solid overall with a fielding percentage of .971 and turned one double play which helped stifle any potential rallies by Philadelphia.

Philadelphia did manage some resistance against Baltimore's pitchers but struggled to find consistency at bat. They scored single runs in three separate innings—the third, sixth and seventh—but it wasn't enough to challenge Baltimore's substantial lead.

Baltimore’s bullpen pitched for 5.1 innings where they struck out seven hitters while maintaining an earned run average (ERA) of just over five runs per nine innings pitched—showcasing depth beyond their starters who had already set a strong foundation earlier in the game.

As fans celebrate this victory for the Orioles, attention turns towards their next challenge: facing off against Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers. This upcoming match is scheduled for March 21st at 6:05 PM Eastern Time Zone and will be broadcasted live on NESN+. Fans are encouraged to tune into this broadcast as Baltimore looks forward to continuing its preseason success.
