The Padres showed promise early in the game, managing to put up their first run in the third inning thanks to strategic hitting that resulted in two hits during that inning. They continued to battle through to the eighth inning where they once again managed to score another run off three hits. Despite these efforts and having runners in scoring position seven times throughout the game, they were only able to convert those opportunities into runs twice.

San Diego's pitching staff had moments of effectiveness but ultimately could not contain the Angels' hitters when it mattered most. The bullpen struggled significantly, allowing three runs over just two innings pitched which inflated their ERA to an alarming 13.5 for this game. This was contrasted by their starters who maintained more control over six innings pitched but still surrendered one earned run.

On defense, the Padres were flawless with no errors and demonstrated strong infield coordination by turning four double plays. Their fielding percentage remained perfect at 1.0 for this encounter.

The Los Angeles Angels found their stride late in the game during a pivotal seventh inning where they scored three runs off two hits which proved decisive for their win. Their pitchers managed to hold off San Diego's batters effectively across nine innings while capitalizing on key moments to secure outs and maintain their lead.
