The Padres showcased their offensive might by amassing 14 hits throughout the game. The second inning was particularly fruitful for the Padres as they capitalized on an error by the Orioles, scoring 2 runs off 2 hits. This momentum continued into the third and fourth innings where they added another run in each, demonstrating their relentless pursuit for victory. A significant surge occurred in the seventh inning when the Padres exploded for 4 runs on 4 hits, effectively sealing their dominance over the Orioles.

Xander Bogaerts and Manny Machado were standout performers for the Padres. Bogaerts hit an impressive .600 including driving in a crucial run, while Machado also batted .600 and contributed significantly with a home run that set the tone early on for what was to come from him and his team.

On the pitching side, Michael King delivered an exceptional performance as a starter for San Diego. King's ERA stood at an impressive 2.842 after this game, complemented by his ability to strike out opponents at a rate of nearly 13 per nine innings pitched (K9). His control over his pitches was evident as he maintained a WHIP (Walks plus Hits per Innings Pitched) of just .6316.

The Orioles tried to mount a comeback late in the game by scoring two runs each in both seventh and ninth innings but fell short due to their earlier defensive errors which proved costly against such formidable opponents as San Diego.
