Did Padres' Early Inning Struggles Against Mets at Citi Field Cost Them the Game?

First Inning

The San Diego Padres faced a challenging start against the New York Mets at Citi Field, with the home team quickly taking control. The Mets surged ahead with 5 runs in the first inning, setting a tone that would prove difficult for the Friars to overcome. Despite their efforts, Padres' pitching struggled early on, allowing 6 hits and failing to contain the Amazins' aggressive batting lineup.

Second Inning

In response, San Diego managed to put a run on the board in the second inning thanks to Freddy Fermin's contribution. However, their momentum was short-lived as New York added another 2 runs in their half of the inning. The Friars found themselves trailing significantly with an early score of 7-1.

Third and Fourth Innings

The third inning saw both teams unable to add any runs. However, in the fourth inning, Manny Machado helped narrow down some of that gap by contributing another run for San Diego. Yet again, New York responded swiftly by adding one more run themselves.

Eighth and Ninth Innings

San Diego attempted one last rally during eighth when they scored once more but ultimately fell short against strong defensive plays made throughout rest game time period; finalizing result being an unfortunate loss (8-3) despite valiant efforts shown across board especially considering tough circumstances faced earlier parts match-up itself overall too!
