Rockies Stumble at Coors Field: Mariners Capitalize on Second Inning Surge
The Colorado Rockies, now standing at 5-17, faced a challenging game against the Seattle Mariners, who improved their record to 11-11 with a final score of 10-2. The Rockies' efforts were not enough to secure a victory at Coors Field.
From the outset, the Rockies showed promise with an early lead in the first inning, scoring two runs off one hit and capitalizing on an error by the Mariners. However, this initial burst of energy was quickly overshadowed by Seattle's explosive second inning. The Mariners amassed six runs from five hits in that frame alone, setting a tone for dominance that persisted throughout the game.
The Rockies' batting lineup struggled to gain traction against Emerson Hancock's pitching. With an overall batting average of .182 and only six hits across nine innings, they left much to be desired in terms of offensive production. Despite having eight chances with runners in scoring position (RISP), Colorado managed just one hit under those circumstances.
Fielding errors also played a part in this tough outing for the home team; both teams recorded one error each during play. On defense, however, there were moments where the Rockies showed efficiency with four assists and twenty-seven putouts contributing to their .969 fielding percentage.
Colorado's bullpen saw some activity as well but couldn't stem Seattle's tide. Over six innings pitched by relievers, they allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out five batters and posting an ERA of 4.5 for that period.
In contrast to Colorado’s struggles at bat and on the mound was Seattle’s consistent performance throughout nine innings which featured thirteen hits including doubles and triples that helped cement their substantial lead over the home team.
