Rockies' Late Surge Not Enough to Overcome Dodgers in High-Scoring Affair at Coors Field

In a game that saw the Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers rack up a combined total of 20 runs and 20 hits, it was the visiting team that emerged victorious. The Rockies, now standing at a 25-48 record, fell short against the Dodgers with a final score of 11-9. Despite out-hitting their opponents with 11 hits to the Dodgers' 9, Colorado could not capitalize fully on their opportunities.

The match started off promising for the Rockies as they surged ahead in the first inning with four runs off three hits. They continued to build on this momentum into the second inning by adding another two runs from three more hits. However, their offense began to sputter as they managed only one run in both the fourth and sixth innings and another single run in the seventh. The ninth inning saw no additional runs for Colorado, closing out their scoring efforts.

On an individual level, Rockies hitters showed resilience throughout. With an overall batting average of .314 for this game and an on-base percentage (OBP) of .395, they demonstrated their ability to get on base consistently. Their slugging percentage stood at .571, highlighted by five extra-base hits including two home runs which contributed significantly to their nine-run tally.

The pitching side told a different story for Colorado. While starters held up through most of the game with an earned run average (ERA) of 5.4 over nearly seven innings pitched, it was ultimately bullpen struggles that proved costly. The relievers posted an ERA of 27.0 across just over two innings pitched allowing seven earned runs which allowed Los Angeles to mount a late comeback.

The Los Angeles Dodgers capitalized on these opportunities particularly in the ninth inning where they scored seven runs off four hits turning what had been a closely contested game into one firmly in their grasp despite committing no errors throughout nine innings.
