Can Rockies' Late Surge Overthrow Cubs' Early Dominance at Coors Field?

The Colorado Rockies faced off against the Chicago Cubs in a game that ended with the Cubs taking victory with a 6-2 score. The Rockies, now standing at 57-93, struggled to match the Cubs' performance, who improved their record to 76-73. Despite a valiant effort in the later innings, the Rockies could not overcome the early lead established by the Cubs.

Rockies Struggle at Bat

The game highlighted some of the challenges faced by the Rockies this season, particularly in their batting lineup. With only four hits throughout the game and an overall batting average of .129, it was clear that opportunities were missed. The team managed to draw six walks but left eight runners on base, failing to capitalize on these chances. Aaron Schunk and Nolan Jones showed promise by each hitting .500 for the game; however, their efforts were not enough to spark a significant rally for their team.

Pitching Efforts Not Enough

On the mound, starting pitcher Cal Quantrill had a tough outing with an ERA of 7.714 after allowing two earned runs over just 2.1 innings pitched. The bullpen saw Justin Lawrence struggle significantly with an ERA of 27.0 after giving up four earned runs in his appearance. Despite these struggles, Jeffrey Criswell stood out with an impressive strikeout rate of 20.25 per nine innings pitched and a WHIP of .375 in his brief appearance.

Cubs Take Advantage

The Chicago Cubs capitalized early on with two runs in both third and ninth innings and one run in seventh inning making use of their eleven hits effectively against both starters and relievers from Rockies pitching staff which couldn't contain them despite striking out thirteen batters across nine innings.

Looking Ahead

The Colorado Rockies will look forward to redeeming themselves when they host Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field on September 16th at 8:40 PM EDT. Fans can catch all action live on COLR network as they hope for better performance from both hitters and pitchers aiming for victory before home crowd.

This encounter promises another opportunity for players like Ryan McMahon and Sam Hilliard to make significant contributions as they continue seeking improvements towards end season standings while keeping loyal fans engaged through every pitch thrown or bat swung during upcoming games.
