Tigers Claw Past White Sox in Extra Innings, Stand Undefeated

The Detroit Tigers continued their perfect start to the season with a 7-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox, pushing their record to 2-0. The game was a nail-biter that extended into extra innings at Guaranteed Rate Field. Despite committing two errors, the Tigers managed to out-hit the White Sox with 12 hits and secured seven runs.

The Tigers came out swinging in the first inning, racking up four hits and three runs to set an early pace. Although they didn't score in the second and third innings, they maintained pressure throughout the game. A critical moment came in the fifth inning when they capitalized on a hit and an error by the White Sox to add another run.

Detroit's hitting statistics were impressive across the board: a batting average of .293, an on-base percentage of .356, and slugging percentage at .537. They also showcased power with five extra-base hits including two home runs which contributed significantly to their total base count of 22.

On defense, despite those two throwing errors leading to unearned runs for Chicago, Detroit's fielding was otherwise solid with nine assists and one double play turned. Their pitchers held up under pressure as well; while starters had some difficulty giving up six earned runs over just 3.1 innings pitched – reflected by an ERA of 16.2 – it was Detroit's bullpen that truly shined with six strikeouts over 6.2 innings pitched without allowing any earned runs.

The bullpen's performance was crucial as it kept Chicago from scoring after their initial burst of six runs through four innings which included three home runs off Detroit’s starting pitcher who struggled with control yielding a WHIP (Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched) of 2.4.

As for base running efficiency, Detroit stole one base successfully maintaining a steal success rate at one hundred percent while defensively catching one attempted stealer from Chicago.

Looking ahead for fans eager to support their team again: The next game featuring these two teams is scheduled on March 31st at Guaranteed Rate Field where fans can tune into NBCS-CHI network for live coverage starting at 1:10 PM CT.
