Tigers' Late Rally Falls Short as Royals Dominate Seventh Inning

The Detroit Tigers, now holding a 23-26 record, faced off against the Kansas City Royals, who improved to 32-19 after an 8-3 victory at Kauffman Stadium. The game saw the Tigers struggle early on but mount a late rally that ultimately fell short.

The first five innings were quiet for both teams, with neither side managing to score. The Royals broke the deadlock in the second inning with two runs and added another in the fourth inning. By the end of five innings, Kansas City led 4-0.

Detroit's offense came alive in the seventh inning when they scored two runs off two hits. This was followed by another run in the eighth inning, narrowing Kansas City's lead to just one run at 4-3. However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Kansas City responded with four runs of their own in their half of the seventh inning.

Spencer Torkelson and Javier Báez were instrumental for Detroit during their brief offensive surge. Torkelson managed one hit and one RBI while Báez contributed another hit and RBI during this period.

On defense, Detroit committed only one error throughout nine innings but struggled to contain Kansas City's hitters who accumulated nine hits overall. Tarik Skubal took his first loss of the season despite striking out six batters over five innings pitched.

Kansas City's Cole Ragans earned his fourth win by effectively shutting down Detroit's lineup through six innings without allowing any runs. John Schreiber also played a crucial role from Kansas City's bullpen by securing his twelfth hold this season.

Looking ahead, fans can catch Detroit's next game against Toronto Blue Jays on May 23rd at Comerica Park in Detroit at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on BSDET network.
