The Detroit Tigers, with a record of 34-37, faced off against the Houston Astros, who came into the game with a 33-39 record. Despite a valiant effort in the final innings, the Tigers could not overcome an early deficit, ultimately falling to the Astros with a final score of 4-1.

The game was characterized by strong pitching performances on both sides. The Tigers' hitters struggled to find their rhythm against Astros' pitchers, managing only three hits throughout the game. The team's lone run came in the ninth inning when they attempted to mount a comeback. Despite this late surge and putting two runners on base in their final at-bat, they were unable to capitalize further.

Kenta Maeda started for the Tigers and pitched five innings. He allowed four earned runs on five hits while striking out one batter and walking two. This performance resulted in Maeda being credited with his third loss of the season. The bullpen provided some relief for Detroit; over three innings of work, they did not allow any runs and surrendered no hits while striking out two batters.

Offensively for Detroit, it was a challenging day at Minute Maid Park as they posted a batting average of .097 and an on-base percentage of .176 during the game. Their efforts resulted in leaving six runners stranded on base.

On defense, however, Detroit showcased their skills by completing two double plays without committing any errors throughout nine innings—a testament to their defensive capabilities despite struggling offensively.

For Houston's part, Ronel Blanco earned his seventh win after delivering an impressive performance from the mound that kept Tiger batters at bay most of the night.
