In a classic showdown between the Detroit Tigers and the San Diego Padres, the latter emerged victorious with a clean 3-0 win. The Tigers, holding a near-even record of 70-69 prior to the game, faced off against the Padres who boasted a more formidable record of 79-61.

Throughout this contest, Detroit found it challenging to turn their moments into scores, only managing six hits and leaving seven stranded on base. Despite their attempts at offense, they couldn't break through to score any runs. Their performance metrics for this game were underwhelming with a batting average of .188, an on-base percentage of .235 and slugging at just .219. They did manage one extra-base hit but failed to make an impact in seven crucial at-bats with runners in scoring position.

Kerry Carpenter and Matthew Vierling stood out for the Tigers despite the overall team struggles. Carpenter impressed with a batting average of .500 coupled with an on-base percentage of .667 and slugging percentage also at .500. Vierling matched Carpenter's batting average while posting an on-base percentage of .5 and slugging percentage equally at .5. Trey Sweeney also made his mark by hitting .333.

From the mound, Tyler Holton put forth an admirable effort from the bullpen maintaining an earned run average (ERA) of 0.0 along with a walks plus hits per inning pitched rate (WHIP) standing impressively low at 0.5 during his time on field. Brenan Hanifee displayed promising skills as well by achieving nine strikeouts per nine innings pitched despite facing tough conditions; he too maintained an ERA of 0.

The Padres leveraged their chances effectively by notching three runs from eight hits over the course of play while their pitchers successfully subdued Detroit's offensive efforts alongside flawless defensive support.
